Samsung Trademarks S Foldable Display For Future Foldable Device

  • Samsung with its foldable smartphone has created a space for itself above all brands. It stands first in line to launch a commercial foldable device and a series of the same. However, now it is reported to bring two new foldable devices. One will be the successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 2. Whereas the second will be the successor to the Z Flip series.

    Furthermore, apart from these two, another new foldable device from Samsung is making rounds recently. It can come with three displays and two cameras. The smartphone, which rumored earlier this month as well, can be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Tab. According to rumors, it will launch sometime in 2022. However, new information from the Dutch website LetsGoDigital gives us more information about the display on the Galaxy Z Fold Tab.

    Samsung Files Trademark for S Foldable Display

    According to the LetsGoDigial report, Samsung Display filed a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). In addition, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) for an “S-Foldable” device. The trademark application is categorizing as Class 9, and the description reads: “display panels, display for smartphones, LCD large-screen displays, flexible flat-panel displays for computers’. Moreover, going by the description, the trademark is likely for a new type of foldable screen. This confirms the application submitted by Samsung’s Display division and not by Samsung Electronics.

    Furthermore, the LetsGoDigital report speculates that the “S” refers to the way the display folds itself. Over time, Samsung has patented different types of foldable devices. Recently, a report suggested it will feature a new ultra-thin glass. It may be a composite material develop newly by Samsung and improving the flexibility and the durability of such material.
