  • Samsung recently stated that it would begin removing advertisements from its first-party mobile apps, and it appears that it is now doing so. Samsung Pay, Health, Theme, and Weather, among other One UI Android apps, have reportedly begun to remove ads.

Reports of the same originally surfaced on Samsung’s Community Forum in South Korea. The posts were eventually picked up by sites like 9to5Google. With the exception of Samsung Pay, which still has an area dedicated to specific special offers, users will no longer see banner ads on any of these apps.

Even better, if you still encounter ads on your Samsung smartphone, you can choose to remove them permanently. This can be done by restarting Theme, Health, Pay, and Weather using Android’s “Force Stop” function.

TizenHelp had previously found a statement from a Samsung employee and had taken it as convincing proof that the change would begin on October 1st. The message, which came from Samsung’s Health Operations Manager, notified users that the banner at the top of the Samsung Health app will no longer be shown.

The change was first verified in the company’s home country of South Korea; but its effects are now being felt in the United States as well. Banner advertisements that were formerly visible on Samsung Pay’s Pay tab are no longer viewable; while select offers may still be seen in the Featured part of the Home tab.

The banner ad that was previously displayed at the top of the app has been gone, as has Samsung Health. The temperature and forecast will reportedly be the only things displayed in Samsung Weather; with the banner ads at the top of the app being eliminated as well. Galaxy Themes has likewise fallen to the same fate.
