Samsung is considering skipping the introduction of a new Galaxy Note series this year. Unlike previous years, it launched every Q2 but it looks like plans have changed. The development comes from Samsung Electronics’ President and Co-CEO, Koh Dong-Jin at Samsung’s 52nd regular shareholders meeting. However, he mentions that it does not plan on abandoning the series altogether. He adds that it was just for this year.
“Galaxy Note series is positioned as a high-end model in our business portfolio. It could be a burden to unveil two flagship models in a year so it might be difficult to release Note model in 2H”.

Galaxy Note Series Delayed One Year?
He can also be referring to the S Pen support which was the primary differentiator between the Galaxy S-series and the Samsung Note series till last year. It looks like the move may be an effect of the overall chip shortage. A report by the South Korean publication Daily also shared the same information. Moreover, the Galaxy S21 Ultra is the first S series phone to support the S Pen.
CEO also said that the company does not plan on abandoning the Galaxy Note series and will likely release it next year. The semiconductor shortage first hit carmakers and now the South Korean tech giant has voiced concerns about it as well. However, according to a report, some analysts believe these shortages could be solved in the coming months.

On the other hand, there were rumors that it can discontinue the Galaxy Note series because both these now support S-pen. According to them, it would become hard to differentiate between the S-lineup and the Galaxy Note if both models support the S Pen.
