Fold and Slide Display Design for Samsung

Samsung seems to be upping its foldable game by including an additional rollable screen. The company has not shied away from experimenting with foldable devices ever since its’ launch in the foldable market. Moreover, we have also looked at several concept devices, including a tri-folding tablet on several occasions. But it looks like the company is prepping to up its own game with this new patent surfacing online.

According to a patent filed at WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation), there is a fold and slide design display from Samsung. The patent was filed back in June this year and was published on December 16, 2021, as discovered by 91mobiles. Furthermore, the patent reads that it is an “electronic device capable of folding and sliding operations”. The accompanying images show that the phone in question – not only folds on one side but is also capable of sliding out. Probably when triggering specific kinds of actions. This should give the phone a wider screen real-estate for content consumption, gaming and much more.

The WIPO filing shows what looks like a normal device that folds along its central axis. However, once unfolded, one side uses a gear mechanism to slide out to reveal an even larger screen. Now, this is a mechanism we spotted in action earlier this year on the Oppo X 2021. Meanwhile, the listing doesn’t tell us anything else about the concept device, but more details should emerge about it as time passes.

As is the case with most patent filings, there’s no telling when the device will hit the market. It could take years before it becomes viable for commercial use. As we know already, Samsung always sits on its patent beforehand for extended time periods.

Additionally, there’s no word on whether or not Samsung plans to release this product, So, we suggest you take this information with a grain of salt.
