Samsung Display showcases the future of rollable, foldable smartphones at the 2021 SID Display Week. They have always pushed the envelope when it comes to developing newer ways for us to interact with our devices. This time around it shows off some exciting new technologies. Ideas like a tri-folding tablet, a foldable laptop, a slidable display, and an under-display camera sensor are in the mix. When it comes to foldable devices – Samsung made its mark in the industry with its own range of devices. However, one should note that the above ideas from Samsung Display are still at the prototyping or patenting level.
Here are some of the concepts showcased by Samsung Display
- 17-inch foldable device: This idea or concept sounds similar to that of Microsoft Surface Neo. However, this is just bigger. It aims to be a foldable phone with a huge 17-inch display that could replace tablets, and in some cases, even laptops.
- S-Foldable: This one we have seen making rounds online with some leaks of its patents/prototypes. Like the available Fold series – it will let you fold your smartphone but with a twist. It will be a phone which you can fold twice making it more compact.
- Slidable phones: This one can be a future reality but at this point a concept. It will be like having a drawer extension and making it very minimal.
- Under display camera: This concept works for both phones as well as laptops, but it remains to be seen how it affects the image quality. Moreover, this idea is right now coming as the forefront of all considering the growing number of brands working towards it.
However, one should note these are all just ideas/ concepts by Samsung Display which can remain just that. It can or cannot come to fruition. We just have to wait and see what comes first.
