Earlier this year, OnePlus announced it is merging its R&D team with OPPO. The company claims it is doing so for streamlining operations and capitalise on shared resources. Moreover, the company claimed Oxygen OS will continue to run on its smartphones in India. According to the company, the major changes will reflect behind the scenes. Now, the company has announced that it will introduce a new unified OS in partnership with OPPO.

With the integration, I would like to say that OnePlus has entered the OnePlus 2.0 phase. I believe we are now a more mature and reliable technology brand that continues to bring top-quality products to users around the world with the same Never Settle spirit as before.

This unified operating system will run on both OnePlus and OPPO phones globally. This upcoming unified OS claims to be “fast and smooth, reliable, smart and feature-rich, and clean and lightweight”. The new OS will run on both OnePlus and Oppo smartphones. OnePlus is dubbing this transition as OnePlus 2.0.

The next OnePlus flagship launching in 2022 will be the first smartphone running this integrated OS. They also added that there will not be any OnePlus 9T or OnePlus 10 launching this year. Because the existing OnePlus 9 series is already powerful enough and will remain competitive throughout this year. On the other hand, the rumoured OnePlus 9RT might launch at the end of this year as an entry-level flagship offering.

A major Android update will be released for all eligible smartphones, once the integrated OS is released. Furthermore, the company said that it has paid increased attention to the camera performance. It is also expanding the global product lineup that is tailored at a regional level. This new integrated OS by both companies also claims to offer a better user experience. Meanwhile, it is not clear how this merge will affect current OnePlus and Oppo devices that are running OxygenOS and ColorOS respectively.
