Smartphone explosions due to the battery are rare but it happens sometimes. Recently, a five-day-old OnePlus Nord 2 5G allegedly exploded in the sling bag of a woman in Bengaluru on Sunday. The spouse of the affected user tweeted just hours after the incident to inform of this incident. However, hours later he deleted the tweet after it became news.

What actually happened to the OnePlus Nord 2?
According to the user, the explosion quickly resulted in smoke coming out of the OnePlus Nord 2. It was in her sling bag at the time. Although batteries exploding are nothing new. However, the new case reported by the Nord 2 user could be a one-off case. Moreover, the company is already investigating the issue.

Later on, the official OnePlus Support account on Twitter responded to Sharma’s tweet. They asked him to communicate with the company over a direct message.
Meanwhile, Gadgets360 mailed to OnePlus on the same. In an emailed statement, OnePlus says it is currently investigating the issue on OnePlus Nord 2. “We take such incidents seriously. Our team has already reached out to the user and is investigating this further,” the spokesperson said.

To recall, the OnePlus Nord 2 launched last month and went on sale in India just last week. One of the major upgrades is 4,500mAh capacity — with Warp Charge 65 fast charging. The phone is also the first in the company’s portfolio to carry a MediaTek Dimensity SoC over a Qualcomm chipset. It comes at a starting price of Rs 29,999 for the 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant. A step-up option with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage has been priced at Rs 34,999.
