Realme and OnePlus were testing periscope lenses on phones with the SM8650 chipset, according to a well-known tipster Digital Chat Station in a Weibo post. As per Android Authority, the model number SM8659 implies an unrevealed Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Additionally, the informant noted that not all handsets purportedly testing periscope lenses have the OmniVision OV64B camera sensor.
The mentioned message strongly suggests that the forthcoming OnePlus model is the OnePlus 12, succeeding the flagship OnePlus 11. It makes sense that the OnePlus 12 would debut the following year, in 2024. The OnePlus 11 5G will become available once Qualcomm introduces the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, replacing the company’s fastest CPU, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.
According to the tipster, the proposed periscope lens will produce superior quality zoomed images and a greater ability to zoom than the standard 2x zoom. Alongside Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra, which boasts up to 10 times optical zoom, Oppo’s Find X6 Pro has periscopic lenses. Meanwhile, the well-known Google Pixel 7 Pro has an optical zoom that can be multiplied by five. Future iPhone models may even come equipped with periscopic lenses.
OnePlus employed Sony IMX890, IMX581, and IMX709 sensors with up to two times of zoom in the OnePlus 11 5G. The OnePlus 12, the alleged model that would replace it, could most likely feature the OmniVision OV64B sensor and the periscopic lenses to provide better, more detailed zoomed photographs.
Additional Features and Price
Furthermore, an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC with an Adreno 740 GPU, up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 256GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage power the OnePlus 11 5G. A 5,000mAh battery with 100W wired SuperVOOC rapid charging capabilities also powers the device. The phone is available in Eternal Green and Titan Black colour options. The pricing for the 8GB + 128GB model is Rs. 56,999, and the 12GB + 256GB variant is priced at Rs. 61,999.
