Nothing Quietly Changes This Phone 1 Feature

The Nothing Phone (1) was advertised at the time of debut as having one of the brightest displays on a smartphone in its price category. With HDR content, the device’s max brightness was 1200 nits. It now seems that wasn’t the case, as the manufacturer quietly changed the smartphone’s specifications.

Computerbase recently reported that Nothing at all The phone (1) couldn’t achieve more than 500 nits of brightness. This was much less than Nothing was claimed at launch. The device’s specifications page has actually been modified and now lists a maximum brightness of 500 nits for everyday use and 700 nits for HDR video.

An earlier version of the Nothing Phone (1) specification page that specifically cites 1200 nits of maximum brightness for viewing HDR video has previously been preserved by the Web Archive. Fortunately, other details like 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, 240Hz touch sampling, etc., have not changed.

Nothing Phone (1): Specifications

The smartphone has a 6.55-inch display with an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz. Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC powers the smartphone. It is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Smartphone boasts a dual-camera setup with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 primary sensor and a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 ultra-wide sensor. The smartphone has undergone a durability test by well-known YouTuber JerryRigEverything, known for his breakdown and durability videos.

The durability test reveals that the front glass scratches at level 6 and at level 7 with deeper scratches. The screen performed well in the fire test, withstanding the flames without burn marks for 40 seconds before recovering its pixels.
