After the Russian incursion in Ukraine, Nokia says that it would abandon the Russian market for telecoms networks and 5G technologies. On Monday, Ericsson said it was ceasing its activities in Russia indefinitely. Nokia’s CEO told Reuters that the business is retreating from the Russian market, going farther than Ericsson.
Following Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine and Western sanctions against Moscow, hundreds of global corporations have severed connections with Russia. The telephone industry, for example, is not there from certain restrictions due to humanitarian concerns or other factors, but Nokia has announced that it will be leaving Russia.

CEO Pekka Lundmark said in an interview that “we just do not see any prospects to remain in the nation under the existing conditions.” Nokia will continue to serve its customers when it exits, but it is unclear how long the withdrawal process will take. A statement from Nokia stated that it is seeking licenses to service customers following existing penalties.
Although Nokia and Ericsson have a small stake, the Russian market is dominated by Chinese enterprises like Huawei and ZTE. As a result, a provision of nearly EUR 100 million is likely in the first quarter. However, Nokia does not anticipate this decision to affect its estimate for 2022. (roughly Rs. 830 crore).

According to Lundmark, it will not implement a joint venture with Russia’s YADRO to manufacture 4G and 5G telecom base stations announced in November. About 2,000 people would be affected by Nokia’s decision to leave Russia, and some of them may be given jobs in other countries, Lundmark added.
