    Netflix adds Spatial Audio Support for iOS Devices
  • Netflix has finally added support for Spatial Audio to its iOS and iPadOS apps. Users of iPhone and iPad devices will be able to use the new feature, which will only operate with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. In January, it was revealed that Netflix was testing Spatial Audio support for its iOS apps. Netflix’s Spatial Audio support has been confirmed by a Netflix official and will be available on iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 and higher. Using directional audio filters, the feature creates an immersive experience. In May, Apple released Spatial Audio for specific iOS 14.6 and above devices.

    Netflix adds Spatial Audio Support for iOS Devices

    According to 9to5Mac, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed that the content streaming platform’s iOS apps will support Spatial Audio. Users of iPhone and iPad devices should be able to use AirPods Pro and AirPods Max with the enhanced audio feature. The new feature will be available to iOS 14 and higher users, according to the spokesperson. Users on Reddit were the first to report on Netflix’s Spatial Audio feature. This was later confirmed by Generation, a French website.

    A toggle in the Control Center allows users to turn on or off Spatial Audio. The Netflix representative stated that users must have the most recent version of the app in order for the feature to work on iOS devices. Because the update will be rolling out in stages, users should check for it on a regular basis if they haven’t already.

    At the WWDC 2021 conference in May, Apple announced Spatial Audio. It also made Lossless Audio and Dolby Atmos support available to all Apple Music members for free. Spatial Audio uses hardware like the gyroscope and accelerometer to pinpoint the location of the sound source. The sound position will shift whenever the user moves or tilts their head left or right; giving the impression that the sound is originating from a fixed location.
