Microsoft Edge Gets Two New Features: All You Need To Know

  • Microsoft Edge has recently gained popularity after the company made the decision to use Google’s Chrome engine. Since then, Microsoft is regularly updating Edge and adding several features.

    Kids Mode

    The latest feature to make its way to Microsoft Edge is the Kids Mode. It offers a safer browsing experience for kids who want to surf the internet. Keep in mind that it is currently only available in US English, with support for both Windows and macOS.

    Once enabled, the Kids Mode offers a number of safety guardrails that make sure your children do not see any explicit or harmful content. The Bing SafeSearch will be automatically set to “strict”, requiring a password to exit the Kids Mode.

    Moreover, Microsoft Edge Kids Mode will also offer custom themes paired with kid-friendly content. In case you are wondering if you need a child account to access the Kids mode, the answer is no.

    Adaptive Notifications

    In July 2020, Microsoft changed the way how websites displayed notifications, by introducing quiet notification requests in Edge 84. It worked wonderfully with users reporting they were getting fewer notification requests.

    With users missing out on notification from their favourite or subscribed websites, the company changed its approach and introduced the adaptive notifications feature in Microsoft Edge 88.

    The new feature maximizes the value of notification and reducing the annoying pop-ups. In order to achieve this, the company developed a system that scores website based on whether they get a positive or negative response.

    Microsoft also said that they will update Edge with the latest data from their survey so users get notifications from their favourite websites.
