According to a recent report, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro (tentative name) might use under panel camera (UPC) technology. As per the rumour, Apple is working on a dual-hole-punch configuration for the Apple iPhone 14 Pro. It may introduce later this year. This is a departure from Apple’s existing notch design, which use to house the TrueDepth Camera system for Face ID, selfies, and video chats on the Apple iPhone 13 series.
According to a new report from The Elec, Samsung Display is collaborating with OTI Lumionics. They will create a new UPC technology. Samsung might be the first to use it on the Galaxy Z Fold 5, with Apple following suit in late 2023 with the iPhone 15 Pro. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will introduce later this year. It might use the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s existing UPC technology. The current UPC technology employs a laser drilling approach, that Apple already rejects.

More Details About the New iPhone 15 Pro
According to OTI Lumionics, a novel organic cathode patterning material (CPM) has debuted that allows “microscopic transparent windows to open in the cathode and OLED pixel layers.” This will make the display fully transparent, allowing Apple to place its FaceID sensors below the display. The implementation of this new UPC technology might prevent the iPhone 15 Pro’s display from having any notch or cut-outs.
