  • The Indian Government has issued a high-severity warning for Apple devices due to the risk of multiple vulnerabilities. According to The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), multiple vulnerabilities found in Apple products could allow attackers to take over devices.

    According to a warning issued by CERT-In, multiple vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code, escalate privileges, or bypass security restrictions on the targeted system. The vulnerability exists due to a certification issue in the Webkit component. This is the component present in the Safari browser that ships with Apple products, including iPhones and MacBooks, leading the government to issue a high-severity warning for Apple devices.

    An attack could exploit them by sending a specifically crafted request. Furthermore, the warning claims these vulnerabilities are used against devices running on versions before iOS 16.7. CERT-In is the nodal authority that operates under the Department of Electronics and Information and Technology in the Government of India. It handles cybersecurity issues in India and works on creating security awareness among citizens.

    The software versions impacted by this vulnerability are:

    • Apple macOS Monterey versions prior to 12.7
    • Apple macOS Ventura versions prior to 13.6
    • Apple watchOS versions prior to 9.6.3
    • Apple watchOS versions prior to 10.0.1
    • Apple iOS versions prior to 16.7 and iPadOS versions prior to 16.7
    • Apple iOS versions prior to 17.0.1 and iPadOS versions prior to 17.0.1
    • Apple Safari versions prior to 16.6.

    In order to protect yourself, you should update to the latest software version available for macOS, iOS and watchOS. Apple has already issued security updates to patch the vulnerability, and users must update the software on their devices. These vulnerability affects MacBooks, iPhones and Apple Watches and allows attackers to access the device remotely.
