Apple and Meta, owned by Facebook, shared user data with hackers, including information such as a user’s IP address. Due to fraudulent requests, an information leak tool got implement in mid-2021. In addition, emergency data requests may be there without a court order, even though such requests are often there with a search warrant or subpoena.
According to three individuals with knowledge of the case, Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, and Discord, a gaming social media platform, both got identical court requests from the same hackers. According to security experts, the Lapsus$ hacking organisation operating out of the United States and the United Kingdom may be behind some bogus requests. According to experts, law enforcement authorities in many nations compromise to trick the firms. Hackers have easy access to these sites on the dark web’s illegal markets on the dark web.
The faked petitions included hints of the same. According to the investigation, there were “fake signatures of genuine or imaginary law enforcement personnel,” according to the research.
