Google brings a very useful yet similar program to Apple & Samsung, Google Self-Repair Programme. The company has announced that it will be retailing a self-repair kit for the owners of Pixel smartphones. Although it has not officially available as of yet, they have confirmed the programme will go live later this year. Google also confirms that it has collaborated with iFixit, an online repair community, for its Genuine Pixel Parts Program. Google Self-Repair Programme: What does it offer?
In the official blog post, Ana Corrales, the Chief Operating Officer, of Consumer Hardware at Google says that “starting later this year, genuine Pixel spare parts will be available for purchase at ifixit.com for Pixel 2 through Pixel 6 Pro. She also says it will be available for future Pixel modes. In the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia and EU countries where Pixel is available.”
In addition, Corrales says “the full range of spare parts of common Pixel phone repairs – things like batteries, replacement displays, cameras and more – will be available either individually or in Ifixit Fix Kits, which include tools like screwdriver bits and spudgers.”

On the other hand, iFixit claims that the full set of tools in our Pixel repair kits will include iOpener, replacement pre-cut adhesive, iFixit opening picks (set of six), and iFixit opening tool. It will also have a suction handle, angled tweezers, precision bit driver with integrated SIM eject tool, and 4mm precision bits appropriate for the specific Pixel phone. It also says that the step-by-step Google Pixel phone repair guides are live for every Pixel through the Pixel 5. Moreover, they are currently writing guides for the Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro.

Moreover, Google has already partnered with companies like Acer and Lenovo for the Chromebook repair programme. The technology giant has also introduced Chrome OS Flex. In turn, allowing education and enterprise users to repurpose old Mac or Windows machines. Helping them to run a version of Chrome OS alongside their Chromebooks.

Similarly, Apple announced a ‘Self Service Repair’ programme to enable tech-savvy users. It should allow users to order genuine parts for their iPhones to repair the smartphone. It will provide parts, tools and manuals under the programme. Whereas, owners of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, and Galaxy Tab S7+ series will be able to repair certain components of their devices. The company will provide display assemblies, back glass and charging ports and encourages users to return the used parts for responsible recycling. However, in the near future, the company will expand this self-repair programme to other devices.
