Why Do I Need To Pay For AI Results In Search?
  • Google Search remains one of the most popular and easiest ways to find answers to any query. Many users prefer the free search engine to get solutions to complex answers within minutes. However, this might soon change as Google could start charging a premium for AI search results. Here is everything you need to know about this change and why Google Search can no longer remain free.

Google Search No Longer Free? You Will Need Subscription For These Features

Google Search No Longer Free, Will Require Subscription

According to a report by the Financial Times, Google could soon start a new subscription model to show AI-based search results, which are currently free. Furthermore, the report claims these results could become a part of the Gemini Nano or Gemini Advanced membership.

Interestingly, even this premium tier of Google Search will include advertisements. This is the first time that Google Search will include a paywall for its feature and no longer remain free. Including advertisements in the premium version isn’t surprising, as ads remain Google’s primary source of revenue.

Furthermore, the company reported $175 billion in advertisement revenue, more than half its total sales. Google showed AI-powered results in Search last year, offering users a crisp summary with detailed info in links for free.

However, it has failed to catch up to ChatGPT, which can answer detailed questions without the need to browse various links endlessly.ChatGPT also has a subscription service called ChatGPT Plus, which includes access to DALL-E and other features.

Google is also reluctant to add features from its Search Generative Experience to free users as generative AI requires a lot of processing power. Furthermore, the SGE is only available to select users with a Google One bundle that offers free cloud storage.
