Google is finally foraying into the smartwatch segment. Although rumours and leaks of a Google Pixel Watch becoming a possibility surfaced here and there, it did not happen. But it looks like this time around it might just happen and very soon. According to leaks, the company is reportedly planning to bring out its own smartwatch next year.
A new report by Business Insider hints that the smartwatch, codenamed ‘Rohan’ will run the latest version of WearOS. In addition, Google Pixel Watch may come with a circular, bezel-less design. As we know already, Google WearOS is the most popular software for smartwatches targeted at Android phones. But it did not make a smartwatch of its own. But if this is true, things might change soon.

Pixel Watch: What We Know So Far
According to Insider’s report, the new upcoming Google watch might be named something different. As of now, it’s not clear whether Google will actually be calling it a “Pixel Watch” yet. There is a chance that Google might get rid of any perceptible bezel making it look like it’s all just a screen. The smartwatch will most likely feature its’ health and fitness tracking. However, there are no findings on the size of the watches or if Google would produce more than one size of the smartwatch.

Google is also reportedly working on debuting a Fitbit integration into Wear OS (codenamed “Nightlight”) with the new watch when it launches. Meanwhile, Google is currently in the middle of the latest reinvention of its smartwatch platform with Wear OS 3. For this latest version, they are doing it in a partnership with Samsung, merging the Tizen platform into Google’s own.

Despite numerous leaks so far, we still don’t know much about the Google Pixel Watch. However, there are some details that we do expect. These include proprietary bands, which means you will likely not be able to buy third-party spare bands and replace them at will for the Pixel Watch. The watch is also still expected to be a device that you will charge once a day, so we wouldn’t expect multi-day battery life on Google’s watches just yet.
