Furthermore, Rahman says his assumptions could be wrong, and the phone might ship with a SIM slot. The Google Pixel 7 lineup of phones released last year features the SIM tray on the left side. It is possible that Pixel 8 series could ditch the SIM tray, at least in the U.S. Apple had launched the iPhone 14 series in the States in an eSIM-only variant.

The lack of a SIM slot means that users must contact their carrier to connect their SIM to their phone. Google had previously showcased a feature to transfer data from a physical SIM to an eSIM seamlessly. It also works on a feature allowing customers to convert their physical SIM into an eSIM.This will make the transition less painful for customers looking to purchase the Pixel 8.
