It is not breaking a world record to sell an iPhone at an auction. Still, it is the most recent in a long line of expensive, rare, unopened technology sold at auction for millions of dollars.

Similar, significant events have occurred in the history of personal technology with the recently sold iPhone. With a touchscreen interface, up to 8GB of storage, an MP3 player, a web browser, and other features, the original iPhone, released in 2007, stood out as significantly different from what mobile phones were at the time.

In many respects, the first-generation iPhone established a standard that other touchscreen smartphones have since surpassed. It dethroned industry juggernauts like Nokia and BlackBerry. Since then, Apple has grown to become one of the largest corporations in the world. Also as well as one of the major phone manufacturers.
