Starlink, the satellite Internet division of Elon Musk’s spacecraft company SpaceX, registered its business in India on Monday. Sanjay Bhargava, Starlink’s country director in India, took LinkedIn to state that SpaceX now has a 100 per cent owned subsidiary in India. Sanjay Bhargava also joined the company recently in October. He also stated, “We can now start applying for licenses, open bank accounts, etc.
The company was incorporated on Nov 1, 2021, with the name SSCPL – Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited. The local unit of the company will allow the company to apply for licenses that it needs from the government.

Starlink’s Mission in India
Starlink is one of the developing companies launching small satellites as part of a low-Earth orbiting network. It aims to provide low-latency broadband Internet services around the world, with a focus on remote areas. In India, Starlink intends to carry on telecommunication services as per company filing. It also includes satellite broadband Internet services, content storage and streaming, multi-media communication, among others.

It will also deal in devices such as satellite phones, network equipment, wired and wireless communication devices, and data transmission and reception equipment, it added. Starlink said it will focus on “catalysing rural development” in India through its broadband services.
Besides, Once it is allowed to provide services, Starlink will be the first one to supply 100 devices for free to schools in Delhi and nearby rural districts. The company strives to have 200,000 devices in India by December 2022, 80 per cent of which will be in rural districts.
