The Clubhouse, a social audio app launches the Backchannel feature, a direct messaging system that enables one-to-one and group text conversations. The platform announced the news on Twitter. The clubhouse also sent messages to its users over Backchannel to announce the launch new feature, according to reverse engineering specialist Jane Manchun Wong.

How to Send Messages on Clubhouse Using Backchannel?
- In the bottom right corner of the app, tap the airplane icon.
- In the top right corner, tap the pen and paper icon.
- You can use this to find the person you want to text.
- Messages can also be sent simply by touching the airplane icon on a user’s profile. This icon will only appear if the user has messages turned on for everyone or if they follow you.
The invite-only app, which grew rapidly during the COVID-19 pandemic, now faces competition from a slew of tech companies, including Facebook, Twitter, and Spotify, all of which are releasing similar audio chat services.
Since releasing on Android in late May, Clubhouse has acquired more than 8 million new users with more than 500,000 rooms created daily. One of the most desired features, according to the company, was the ability to send direct messages.

With a small group of testers, the company is also beta testing the Android version of its application. In addition, the invite-only audio platform has updated its iOS app with a few tweaks and improvements. The clubhouse hasn’t set a date for the rollout of the new feature for its Android app. But given that it has already released a beta version, a stable version should be available shortly.

Clubhouse App was launched in April 2020 as an iOS-only app and has since grown in popularity. Discord’s Stage Channel, Instagram Live Rooms, Reddit Talk, Telegram Voice Chats 2.0, and Twitter Spaces are now its competitors. Facebook and LinkedIn are developing their own alternatives, while Mark Cuban’s Fireside audio chat and podcasting app might launch soon.
