Google has announced a new version of Android 12 during the Android Dev Summit 2021 event. This is the new Android 12L OS and have been made specifically to cater to a certain group of devices. To be specific, the brand new operating system has been made for enhancing the experience on devices with large displays. This includes foldable smartphones, Android Tablets and tablets that run on ChromeOS.
According to Google, the newly announced Android 12L OS will be rolling out early 2022. At present, the tech giant is joining hands with OEM partners to introduce a bunch of features into the new OS. The Android 12L developer preview will be rolling out for the Lenovo P12 Pro soon.

Moreover, developers can go through the 12L Android Emulator system images and tools. This has been made available via the latest Android Studio preview release. Besides, the pubic beta will be available for Pixel devices later on in 2022.
Android 12L Features
The brand new OS by Google will bring in a bunch of different changes to large displays. We will be seeing enhanced notifications, lock screen design, home screen, quick settings and more. An example of this is that on display above 600dp, the lock screen, notification shade and more such elements will use a new two column layout. What this will do is basically allow the device to make use of the display area more.

Further, Android 12L will bring an enhanced multitasking experience to users. We will see the taskbar design of Windows and MacOS make its way into the new OS. Moreover, this will allow users to easily use the split-screen mode. Just drag and drop from the taskbar and the app will run in split-screen mode. In addition, Google is enabling automatic split-screen mode for apps for a better experience.

Google has also announced a variety of different tools for developers. These Android 12L tools are for developers to make use of and adapt their apps and ultimately offer an improved experience across multiple display sizes. The tools include responsive UI, adaptive UI patterns, new set of APIs, new navigation components and more. We also get a new API that automatically detects the folds and hinges of a foldable smartphone.
