OnePlus has been releasing its new flagship smartphones quite frequently for the last few years. The OnePlus 9 is the latest flagship smartphone by Oneplus that was launched in March this year.
Whenever a new OnePlus smartphone hits the market it does make a good hype by offering the latest Snapdragon processor at a slightly lesser price than the flagship S-series smartphones from Samsung and more brands.
It has been a few months since the release of the OnePlus 9 and the new “T” variant should arrive in a few months. And this shall make the OnePlus 9 outdated pretty soon.
So, it worth buying the OnePlus 9 right now? Or if you own a OnePlus 9 is it the right time to trade off and get a better resale value? Let’ find out.

OnePlus 9: Display and Design
The display panels on the OnePlus smartphones are always rated high. And you can expect the same with the OnePlus 9. It features a 6.55 inches Fluid AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It also has a 1080p resolution, a 402 PPI density, and a max brightness of 1100 nits.
The colors on this display are very vibrant, giving a great experience while doing any type of media consumption. If the display is your main priority then getting this device could be your best investment.
Talking about its design the OnePlus has a similar design to its predecessor, the OnePlus 8T. A big visual difference that you may find is the newly designed camera module on the back. The front also looks the same as the 8T, as they have the same punch hole camera design and display.
Even with top-of-the-line specs, the OnePlus 9 lacks the IP rating which the OnePlus 9 Pro has. The design of this smartphone is not that exciting and it looks like OnePlus is now focusing more on the highly-priced Pro variants.

OnePlus 9 Performance & Software experience
OnePlus comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset. The processor is the same on both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. You can expect a very powerful performance output from this smartphone.
The device can easily handle any type of processor-intensive task. There is really nothing to complain about. The OnePlus 9 has enough processing power to go intense gaming and even heavy editing apps.
It is not a gaming phone but the device is well suited for gamers too. The OnePlus 9 packs an 8GB RAM from the base model which helps in multitasking, gaming and also makes scrolling through the apps really smooth.
The device has the latest Oxygen OS 11.2.2.7. This is the same UI version that we saw in the OnePlus 8T, although you will find a few changes there. The OnePlus 9 is running on Android 11 and will surely get the Android 12 soon after its release.
The software experience is also up to the mark, better than most of the Android flagship smartphones. It may not give the same stock Android experience that we saw in the previous gen. But this is the closest one can get to maintaining a balance of clean Android and some essential apps and features.

OnePlus 9 Battery
The OnePlus 9 has a 4500mAh dual-cell battery that supports 65W fast charging. The battery isn’t a very big update compared to the previously launched OnePlus 8T.
If we talk about the battery performance then it’s just ok. We had expected something better with the OnePlus which they failed to provide in this flagship smartphone. Although the battery can easily last you a full day with medium usage with a few hours of gaming.
The OnePlus 9 also misses on fast wireless charging, and this is another time when the pro model gets more priority than the budget one.
OnePlus 9 Cameras
The OnePlus 9 features a triple camera setup at the back including a wide, ultra-wide, and monochrome camera.
It gets a 48MP f/1.8 aperture wide-angle, a 50MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, and a 2MP f/2.4 monochrome camera. The device also gets the Hasselblad camera feature that uses the new natural color calibration method which is very well optimized.
At the front, you get a 16MP f/2.4 aperture wide selfie camera. Again the selfie is the same as its predecessor. Overall the camera on the OnePlus 9 is the best compared to any previous OnePlus smartphones, all thanks to Hasselblad. The camera performance is quite decent and you can see more accurate colors, minimal oversharpening, and better details.
How OnePlus 9 Stands with its Competitions?
The pricing of the OnePlus 9 pricing starts from Rs. 50,000 which is fairly priced. But still, other flagship smartphones can give you better performance with some increase in budget.
The first device we have is the new Samsung S21 which has a small form factor compared to other Android smartphones of the current time. You can get this device for Rs, 65000. It has very similar specs to the OnePlus 9 with main difference being the Exynos 2100 and Samsung’s own One UI software.
You can also get some iPhones in this segment. The iPhone 12 can be a great alternative for the OnePlus 9. Although the price difference is quite a lot, and its totally worth it and the iPhone 12 can be a great choice.

With its fast A14 Bionic chipset, you can easily do any type of tasks you want to do through your smartphone. The iPhone 12 was launched last year, but you will still get iOS updates for more than 3 or 4 years, which we don’t see in any Android smartphone.

Is It a Good Idea to Upgrade Your OnePlus 9 Right Now?
The OnePlus 9 is just a few months old now and there is no point in upgrading to a new smartphone right now. However, the new upgraded “T” series for the OnePlus 9 will arrive in a few months, most probably by year-end. And this should be an upgraded version of the current OnePlus 9.
Once the OnePlus 9T arrives the resale value of the OnePlus 9 might drop significantly, so if you are worried about that then you can sell your device just a few weeks prior to the launch of the OnePlus 9. Right now it is not a good idea to sell your OnePlus 9 and enjoy the performance of the Snapdragon 888 processor.
