Google Pixel smartphones are quite popular for their photography capabilities and software experience. Recently Google forayed into the foldable smartphone market with the Pixel Fold which is powered by Google’s Tensor G2 chip and offers a large 7.6-inch display.
Whilst all this is good, there is one key issue with foldable smartphones in general, is their durability. Ever since the first Samsung Galaxy Fold and its issues with durability, there has been a stigma towards foldable handsets in India and other markets. Add to this the complexity that comes with the folding screen, it is tough to repair and fix these handsets.
Unlike Samsung, which only allows professionals to fix their Galaxy Fold handsets, Google has chosen to go down a different route. Recently, it was revealed that Google will allow you to fix your Pixel Fold all on your own thanks to Right To Repair. This will come courtesy of official branded tools and parts from Google itself.
iFixit, a partner of Google will allow users to do so and aid them in fixing and tinkering with their Google Fold. This is quite interesting as it makes the Google Pixel Fold the first of its kind to offer self-repair capabilities for the owner.
With this being said, if you are planning to buy the Google Pixel Fold, you might be curious just as to how you can avail this benefit. If you are a tech enthusiast, this might sound like an interesting experience. Here’s how you can fix your Google Pixel Fold all on your own.

What Else is Worth Noting About the Pixel Fold?
Do note that as of now, the replacement parts for the new foldable are not on offer right now. They will probably be on offer in the coming weeks. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the official guide for the Pixel Fold is available on iFixit’s official website.
In case you are unaware, the Google Pixel Fold is the first foldable handset from the brand and was released in June internationally. The smartphone might not be available in India anytime soon. But once it arrives in India you can expect Cashify Doorstep Repair service to be available across India.
The Google Pixel Fold comes with the Titan M2 processor and the G2 Tensor chip. They are both in-house options from Google. You can get your hands on the Google Pixel Fold for $1799 (Rs. 1,49,0000) and is available in two hues, namely Obsidian and Porcelain.
In terms of the Google Pixel Fold, the company mentions that it will be offering walk-in repair and mail-in repair options for the handset even if it is out of warranty. The company is aiming to let users work with iFixit. But, it is also offering an extended Warranty. This provides coverage against issues like breakdowns and damages even after the warranty period runs out. The company will offer monthly plans or even a one-time payment option. This can depend on the owner’s choice.
Whilst this might seem like an amazing option for techies and enthusiasts, the sheer complexity makes it a tough task to do. It is still recommended to go to the service centres instead of trying to do things yourself. This is mainly due to minute details such as the adhesive required and the accurate placement of basic components like the camera module. That being said, it is great to see a major brand offer the choice for users to try their hand at fixing their shiny new Pixel Fold if need be. All Hail Right To Repair!
