5 Tips on How to fix AirDrop on iPhone, iPad and Mac
How to fix AirDrop on iPhone is no rocket science! It is simple, more than you would think. Here’s how to do it:
1. Check if your device is compatible
AirDrop will only work on your device if it is compatible with the tool. To use this feature, you need to have an iPhone 5 or later, iPad 4 or later, iPad mini or fifth-generation iPad Touch.
For Mac, you need to have the models released after 2012, running OS X Yosemite and later. To check if your Mac is compatible with AirDrop or not, head to the Finder>Go. If you don’t see AirDrop listed there, then your Mac is not compatible with this feature.
2. Check your AirDrop Settings
Sometimes there happen to be some issues with the AirDrop Settings. Therefore, it is essential that you check the settings as well. Your AirDrop has one inactive and two active settings. These include- Receiving off, Everyone and Contacts Only.
Receiving off prevents anyone from sharing anything over AirDrop
Everyone allows anyone to share files
Contact only limits file sharing to only those people whose email address and mobile number are saved with you
If your AirDrop is not working in your iPhone/iPad, check if Everyone is selected as your Settings. If not, follow these steps to set the settings to Everyone:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Now find General.
- Next, on the General page, tap on AirDrop.
- Finally, tap on Everyone.
For Mac,
- Go to the Finder window on your Mac.
- From the sidebar, select the AirDrop option.
- Now, click on the Setting>Allow me to be discovered by> Everyone.
3. Check your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi

Toggle Wi-Fi on iPhone and iPad

4. Disable personal hotspot- How to fix AirDrop on iPhone
Here is the thing, AirDrop won’t work if you are lending your personal hotspot to someone to use the internet. You must switch it off when using AirDrop. Once you have shared the files, you can turn on the hotspot anytime.
However, if you have an iOS 13.1 or later, you must know that the personal hotspot is by default always open, and you don’t get any on/off button for it separately. But, if you have to turn it off, just long-press the Bluetooth button and check if the Personal hotspot option is green. If yes, tap on it to make your hotspot disabled.
5. Hard reset your device
