Review Summary

Sony’s WF series offers a combination of performances and features to the users. The Sony WF-C500 is the company’s first attempt for the under 6K segments. That certainly makes users curious about its offerings. Also, if you are paying 6K, you would definitely want to experience most of the premium features. Now, that is the real question here! Sony WF-C500 Specs At A Glance

Before I dive deeper into the Sony WF-C500 review, have a look at the specs in brief:

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth V5.0
  • Supported OS: Android, iOS
  • Battery: Up to 5 hours of playback time
  • Weight: 35 grams

Sony WF-C500 Design And Comfort

Let’s start the Sony WF-C500 review with the physical design part. The Sony WF-C500 features a small and lightweight build. The overall weight of these earbuds with the case is just 35 grams. So you can easily fit them in your pocket. Talking about the case, you get a pill-shaped case with a translucent top.

The translucent finish on the top gives the earbuds a slightly cheap feel, but the plus point is that you can check the battery status from there without having to open the lid. I personally loved this attempt by Sony. Opening the case with one hand is not easy. Furthermore, at the back of the case, you get Type-C charging support.

Inside the case, the earbuds are placed with strong magnet support. Speaking of the buds, the earbuds are built primarily of plastic, but they don’t appear cheap or inexpensive. The eartips are made up of Silicone which rests comfortably against the ear, giving you a secure fit.

As for me, I really enjoyed the fact that I did not have to shove the buds back into my ears while exercising, running or walking. Also, there are two additional pairs of eartips, so you can choose your fit accordingly.

The back of the earbuds features a physical button which helps you perform the required action. The buds also have a mic opening for voice-assistant interaction.

Overall, the design of the Sony WF-C500 is not something unique, but the fit is worth the hype. The earbuds come rated with IPX4 for sweat and splash resistance, thus making them a perfect companion for your gym sessions.

Sony WF-C500 Audio Quality

Unlike the ordinary design, the Sony WF-C500 pack excellent audio that you get to see only with top-notch earbuds. The earbuds feature 5.8mm, drivers, with a frequency response of 20Hz – 20KHz, which is the reason for such excellent audio quality.

I tested the earbuds for songs across various genres, including Rock, Hip-Hop, Classical, EDM, Bollywood, and more. They delivered a balanced sound with perfect highs and lows. Also, the bass offered is equivalent to premium-priced earbuds.

One thing that’s missing here is ANC support. So, while on calls, the person on the other end experienced some distortion. This might be a deal-breaker for many, but the accurate sound quality makes up for it.

Sony WF-C500 Battery Life And Charging

Battery life is definitely an important criterion when buying TWS earbuds. Talking about the Sony WF-C500, the earbuds offer an average battery life. The company claims to be offering 10 hours of playback time which might not be the best. Given, Nothing Ear 1 offers 34 hours of playback time.

In practical usage, I got up to nine hours of playback time on a single charge which stands near to what Sony claims. Furthermore, the charging case offers one additional full charge.

That gives us almost 20 hours of battery life in total, which is nothing extraordinary. However, the addition of fast charging support is a plus point here. So, in just 10 minutes, you get up to 1 hour of playback time.

Sony WF-C500 Features And Connectivity

Lastly, in my Sony WF-C500 review, I will talk about the additional features we get to see with these TWS earbuds. The Sony WF-C500 come equipped with Bluetooth version 5.0. I really liked the stable connection I got throughout. Furthermore, the earbuds are compatible with both iOS and Android devices.

Talking about the controls, the earbuds feature a button at the back. Note that pressing the button may cause some inconvenience to your inner ears as you have to push the buds even down when pressing the button. But the buttons are quite responsive.

The button can be used to play/pause the sound, skip forward/backwards, volume up/down and accept or reject calls. Additionally, you can download the companion app – Sony Headphones Connect”.

The app lets you control the buds even better. You can modify the EQ settings, set the Bluetooth priorities, enhance the sound quality and more.

Overall, the Sony WF-C500 is great when it comes to connectivity and features. Worth the try, of course.

Verdict

So, should you buy the Sony WF-C500? That totally depends upon what your preference is! Sony WF-C500 certainly shines in two areas- secure fit and great sound. The earbuds are quite comfortable in terms of design and hence can be a good option for you. However, if you want bigger battery life, transparency mode and ANC support, this TWS earbud is not the perfect choice for you. In that case, you can choose the competitors’ Realme Buds Air 2 or Nothing Ear 1.
