GTA 5‘s PC release was one of the most optimised ports we had seen from Rockstar so far. Its minimum requirements were low enough to run on most PCs, and the recommended requirements allowed beastly gaming rigs to take full advantage of their power. In either case, the game looks fantastic. The same can’t be said for the gameplay, however. Whether you’re playing the single-player mode or GTA Online, you’ll definitely encounter some bugs. GTA Online, especially, has been known to have a rocky start, thanks to a large number of bugs plaguing the gameplay. Although most of them have been patched out, we’re looking at common GTA 5 Online bugs and how to fix them!
So, without any further delay, let’s get started.
Missing textures
The missing texture bug is one that has dominated GTA games since GTA III. It was even more prevalent in GTA IV, thanks to the lack of optimisation. Although GTA 5 fares slightly better than its predecessors, it still suffers from textures not loading. This is a common problem on many low-end PCs. This often makes the game unplayable, as players aren’t able to see what’s in front of them or go to mission locations. You can fix this in a couple of ways.
- Change the priority to high – Open GTA 5 Online and minimise the game at the main menu. After this, open the task manager and navigate to the GTA 5 process. Right-click on the option and change the priority to High. This will force your computer to close background tasks and focus its resources on running the game smoothly.
- Change Vertical Synchronisation – VSync is quite a controversial option in gaming. Although it reduces screen tearing, it can also cause severe lag or bugs. So, go to the game’s Options. Find the VSync setting and either switch it off entirely or set it at 50 per cent.

Stuttering
Stuttering and freezing is a common occurrence in multiple games. Things are no different when it comes to GTA 5 Online, and the game tends to suffer from crashes and freezing, especially at five to ten-minute intervals. If you’re suffering from this situation, the only solution is to increase your virtual memory. To do this, check the following steps:
- Press the Windows Key and the I key together. This will open the Settings app.
- At the Settings app, go to System, and then click About.
- Under the About section, you’ll find the Advanced System Settings. Select this.
- Navigate to the Performance tab and select Settings.
- Under Settings, you’ll find the Advanced tab. This will contain the option to increase your Virtual Memory. Select on Change and input the required values.
As a rule of thumb, keeping your virtual memory to anywhere between 1.5 times to three times your system’s RAM is better. Another option to remove the stuttering would be to increase your system’s RAM and incorporate a dual channel RAM.

Infinite loading screen glitch
Infinite loading screens are some of the most annoying bugs to manage in a game. This bug is often game-breaking as it doesn’t allow you to access the game at all. There’s not much use in trying to figure out WHY this glitch occurs, as it can happen due to a myriad of reasons. However, there’s an easy way to fix this glitch as well. Let’s check out the steps below:
- Minimise GTA Online and open Task Manager.
- Navigate to the Performance tab and find the Resource Monitor option.
- Find GTA 5 on the list. Select it and Suspend the game for a while, preferably up to 20 seconds.
- Return to GTA 5 and maximise the game. This should cause the game to reload and get rid of the glitch.
Tutorial glitch
In May 2022, Rockstar Games released a patch which was meant to fix multiple bugs and glitches that the game was suffering from. Instead of resolving these issues, the update not only aggravated most of them but also introduced new bugs. One of these bugs forced all the players to replay the tutorial missions and parts of the game. Moreover, players couldn’t log out of the game or exit the tutorial mission. Bear in mind that the GTA 5 Online tutorial is vast and can be rather tedious.
Thankfully, Rockstar understood the problem and rolled back the updates. Nonetheless, some people still suffer from this glitch and cannot proceed in the game. If you’re suffering from the same issues, your only way out is to complete the tutorial. There aren’t any other quick fixes for this, unfortunately.

Sell missions bug
Rockstar released the Criminal Enterprises update at the tail end of July, with some exciting new content for players to explore. One of the many changes made to the game was that players could now play through the Sell missions through Invites. Although most of the update went smoothly enough, some players didn’t enjoy this change. This was primarily due to the fact that their in-game online avatars weren’t being selected. Instead, players were redirected to the character creation screen. This is quite a large bug as most players have played for hours trying to personalise their character and add expensive in-game items to their wardrobes.
However, there is a fix for this. All you need to do is go to the game’s Main Menu when you’re shown the character creation screen. From there, start the GTA 5 single-player mode. The single-player mode allows you to play as your GTA Online character. So, switch to your GTA Online character, exit the story mode, and return to GTA Online‘s invite session. This should fix the error.
Summing up
So, we hope that these tips and tricks will help you fix the most common GTA 5 Online bugs. GTA 5‘s online component is one of the best parts of the game, with an immense amount of replayability and new content added to the game frequently. It’ll be a shame if people don’t get to enjoy GTA Online, thanks to a few common bugs. So, if you encounter any of the bugs we’ve mentioned, follow the solutions we’ve given, and you’ll be good to go!
