The Meta messenger WhatsApp did not allow the user to privately check their account. Though the users were able to turn off the ‘Last Seen’ feature. It showed the time stamp of the last time they used the online messaging platform. They could not hide when they were online from their contacts. So, when WhatsApp users opened the messaging app, their contacts could view their online status.
So when users want their online presence private, the app has rolled out the much-awaited feature. It allows users to chat with specific people without enabling their online presence. The online presence feature lets the users decide who can see them when they are online.

By default, WhatsApp has set its privacy settings to allow any user to see their last seen online.
How Users Can Change It?
On Android: Tap More options > Settings > Privacy.
On iPhone: Tap Settings > Privacy.
On KaiOS: Press Options > Settings > Account > Privacy.
On Desktop: Click Menu > Settings > Privacy.

-Then you can change who can view your Last seen online.
-After that Tap on Last seen and online.
-Select the relevant option from ‘Who can see my last seen’
-Under ‘Who can see when I’m online, tap on ‘Same as last seen’

To be noted-
If you hide last seen or online, you will not be able to see other users’ last seen or online as well. This is irrespective of the option selected under the privacy option, the people online in a chat thread with you can see when you’re typing.
