    Initial Success And Subsequent Decline
  • Meta’s social media platform, Threads, designed to challenge Twitter’s dominance, has introduced a web version following a lackluster mobile app launch. The aim of this move is to attract professionals, media personalities, and active social media users who predominantly engage from their computers during work hours.

Threads’ web version, Threads.net, is now available to the public, according to a statement from Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram and Threads. Previously, Threads was exclusively accessible as a mobile app for iOS and Android devices. The transition to the web is to enhance the platform’s appeal and cater to users who prefer larger screens and full keyboard functionality.

The Threads team is committed to improving the web experience. Also has plans to introduce additional features over the upcoming weeks. The aim is to match the functionality available on the mobile app, providing a seamless and consistent user experience across platforms.

Upon its rushed release in early July, Threads witnessed a surge in downloads, becoming the fastest-growing app ever. It outpacing the record previously held by AI sensation ChatGPT. However, this initial excitement waned over time, with usage steadily declining. Early adopters expressed the need for a web version and other improvements.

Despite granting early access to notable figures like Jennifer Lopez and Tom Brady, many celebrity users posted infrequently on Threads. In contrast, the platform X, continues to lead in terms of user engagement for commentary and news. However, X’s reputation has suffered due to disruptions following Elon Musk’s involvement, prompting users to explore alternatives.

One analytical measure revealed a significant drop in daily active users on the Android version of Threads. Falling from a peak of 49.3 million to 10.3 million. The company wants to make Threads stable before trying to get more people to use it.

Additionally, Threads is notably unavailable in Europe due to Meta’s uncertainty about navigating the European Union’s stringent data privacy regulations.
