According to a Chinese tipster, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra would use a third-generation 108-megapixel primary sensor, which differs from what previous rumors indicated. Samsung had promised a higher-resolution camera sensor for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but it appears that it would instead use a refined version of the sensor found in the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Although Samsung has not released any details regarding the Galaxy S22 lineup, there have been a few rumors about the phone’s camera, such as a collaboration with Olympus.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 3rd-Generation 108-Megapixel Camera
Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S21 line of smartphones was launched in February of this year. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra came with a 108-megapixel primary rear camera sensor as well as three additional sensors. Samsung may partner with Olympus to manufacture camera modules for the next generation of Galaxy smartphones, according to reports from April. The Galaxy S22 Ultra was rumored to have a 200-megapixel camera sensor and Olympus branding in the same month. On Weibo, a well-known Chinese tipster has revealed that Samsung would not use a 200-megapixel sensor on Galaxy S22 Ultra; instead opting for a third-generation 108-megapixel sensor.

According to the source, Samsung will use software enhancements to polish the 108-megapixel sensor used on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung revealed the ISOCELL HM3 image sensor in January and it came in the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung will improve this sensor much more for the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
A higher megapixel sensor isn’t always better than a sensor with a lower megapixel, as we’ve seen in the past. The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s photo/video quality could significantly improve by keeping the 108-megapixel sensor and improving, optimizing the image processor.

There is currently no official information on the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. The previous rumors have indicated that the device will feature a triple back camera layout; a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, and a 12-megapixel telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom.
