Qualcomm is preparing for its next tech event, Snapdragon Summit on November 30, 2021. As we know, this event will see the unveiling of the successor of Snapdragon 888 SoC. Early rumours suggested the Snapdragon 888 successor will have the moniker Snapdragon 895 or Snapdragon 898 SoC. But reports and leaks hinted at Snapdragon 898 SoC moniker. However, it looks like both of these names are not the right ones and Qualcomm could instead call the chip something else entirely.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1: New Moniker
According to a new leak by the tipster Ice Universe, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 successor could be called Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Qualcomm will unveil more details of the upcoming chip at its annual flagship event on November 30. There is no official word yet on the minutes of the event. However, like every year, we can expect the company to launch the Snapdragon mobile flagship processor.

From all the rumours, Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC will apparently employ an octa-core CPU that comprises of cortex-X3 based main core clocked at 3.0GHz. It comes along with 3x Cortex-A710 based performance cores running at 2.5GHz. The energy-efficient Cortex-A510 based cores will be clocked at 1.79Hz. The chipset will pair with the Adreno 730 GPU to take of graphic workloads. However, what improvements it will bring over the Adreno 660 is something that remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Digital Chat Station hints that the MediaTek Dimensity 2000 and Snapdragon 898 will look quite similar on paper. However, it will come with a few differences. Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 will be built on Samsung’s 4 nm manufacturing process. Whereas, the Dimensity 2000 will use TSMC’s 4 nm node. Now, it looks like this is where the efficiency differences begins. It starts with TSMC’s nodes being a bit better than Samsung’s over the last few years.
