On June 2nd, Huawei launched a new version of the HUAWEI Mate 40 Series and HUAWEI Mate X2, as well as the HUAWEI WATCH 3 Series and the HUAWEI MatePad Pro, all of which is powered by Huawei’s new HarmonyOS 2 operating system.

Richard Yu, the CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, says that the company is switching about 100 of its products worldwide to the new operating system. Including tablets like the MatePad Pro. It’s a significant change from Huawei’s earlier phones, which ran an open-source version of Android. Now Huawei’s own services will substitute Google software, which the company has been unable to use due to US sanctions.

HarmonyOS
The company says HarmonyOS is a next-generation operating system. HarmonyOS is for smart devices which offer a common language for different types of gadgets. The OS connects and interacts, making life easier, smoother, and more secure for users. It makes use of distributed technology to address the diverse needs of a wide range of devices with a single system, allowing for flexible deployment as required. HarmonyOS combines all hardware and software into a seamless and holistic Super Device. This allows users to freely use the capability of its smart devices based on users’ needs.
HarmonyOS enables developers to create apps that are cross-platform and cross-device deployable. This enables app development over devices easier than ever before.

Huawei’s company has already suffered as a result of its inability to use Android on its smartphones during the past year. According to Counterpoint Research statistics from April 2021, the company’s market share declined to 4% in the first quarter of 2021, down to 8% in the fourth quarter of 2020. It had a 17 percent market share at the beginning of last year, and it even held the top rank in the market for a short time.
