The Center launched an Indian Sign Language (ISL) dictionary mobile application on Friday. This app is going by the name ‘Sign Learn’. Sign Learn is launching under Pratima Bhowmik, the minister of State for Social Justice and empowerment. Moreover, a presentation about this app also followed at the launch.
Sign Learn is based on the Indian Sign Language Dictionary of the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center (ISLRTC). It contains around 10,000 words and is for use in both Android and iOS versions.

Both Hindi and English languages can be used for searching for any term in the ISL Dictionary. The videos on the app are easy to share on Social media platforms. A senior official also states, “The app aims to make the ISL dictionary easily available and to make it more accessible for the public at large “.
On October 6, 2020, a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) is signed by ISLRTC with the National Council Of Educational Research And Training (NCERT). So this happened as to convert the textbooks from classes 1 to 12 into the Indian Sign Language. It’s main aim is to make this digital format accessible to a large number of students, including the ones with hearing disabilities.

This year, ISL e-content of NCERT textbooks of Class VI launched, as per the official’s statement. The Centre has also launched some “Veergatha” volumes from the National Book Trust’s “Veergatha” series. It is under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
ISLRTC and NCERT have joined hands to launch 500 academic words in Indian Sign Language. These academic words will come in use at the secondary level. They are used in subjects such as History, Political science, Science, and Mathematics, as per the official.
