HTC isn’t in the smartphone industry for years now. Apparently, the latest update has arrived on Chinese media site ‘My Driver’ which hints at an upcoming 5G smartphone from HTC. This means that apart from VR headsets from the brand, there’s one more phone left in the HTC catalogue.
According to the report, this upcoming 5G phone will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with 5G capabilities. SDM865 is currently the most powerful chipset in the Android smartphone with many flagship phones released in a couple of months ahead already sporting it and more are joining the wagon. This also hints at a possible impressive spec sheet that this phone will pack in although there’s not much known about it as of now.
Chen Boyu, General Manager at HTC, started the string of rumours when he mentioned an upcoming 5G smartphone from HTC in an interview with ePrice last year. As per the report, Boyu confirmed that they will be working on a 5G phone when the 5G network arrived in Taiwan. This puts emphasis on the possibility that the upcoming 5G phone will arrive in Taiwan first followed by other countries.
