Review Summary

Vivo has launched its camera-centric series, Vivo V40. This series is known for its best camera performance, battery life, and other software features. Its camera comes with Zeiss calibration to deliver the best photos.

It has a 6.78-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, giving the best display usability. It also supports HDR10 Plus so that you can watch HDR Netflix and YouTube videos. Moreover, it has a 5,500mAh battery, which offers almost 13 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Vivo V40 has a 50MP + 50MP rear camera and a 50MP front camera, which makes it a strong contender for the mid-range phone list in terms of photography. Moreover, it supports 4K video recording at 30fps, which is also the best part.

I’ve been using this phone for around 15 days to give an accurate review. Is it worth buying in 2024? Moreover, does a 5,500 mah battery deliver long-lasting performance? Is its camera really top both, or is it a myth? So, there are several questions that a buyer thinks about before purchasing. So let’s read my detailed Vivo V40 review to make the right decision before buy.

Vivo V40 Design and Build

Vivo V40’s design is very beautiful. First of all, I liked the phone’s in-hand feel. Also, its plastic build quality looks very solid and premium. To protect the display, it has a gorilla glass. Its weight is only 190 grams, so you will not feel heavy while carrying the phone.

It has an IP68 rating to protect it from splashes and dust. This rating does not mean that you can submerge it in water, but if it falls in water and stays there for some time, it will not get damaged.

Its overall dimension is 164.2 x 75 x 7.6 mm.

The edges of the back are curved so that the phone fits the hand very well overall. Its curved display gives it a premium look. The phone has a camera module at the back as well as an Aura light.

The volume and power buttons, which are very soft to press, are on the right side of the phone. On the top side, there is an IR blaster.

On the bottom side of this phone, there is a volume strip, Type-C charging slot, microphone, and SIM tray.

Vivo V40 Camera

Let’s move on to the Vivo v40 camera review, which is one of the major points of this phone. It comes with a squint at the camera. This phone has a total of three cameras: there is a 50-megapixel main camera at the back with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 50-megapixel front camera as well.

Vivo V40 camera

The most notable thing is that there is no telephoto zoom camera here. While many phones in this price range come with telephoto cameras, like Realme 12 Pro Plus, Realme 13 Pro Plus, Samsung F23 FE and Motorola Edge 50 Pro also come with telephoto cameras.

Apart from this, the Vivo v40 comes with a Zeiss camera, but it is not like the X series. You will get some Zeiss filters in it, as well as a filler in the video.

Its rear camera is impressive; it captures perfect photos. I would like to say that most people will like its camera results, but I did not like one thing about the primary camera a little less: It makes the human skin a little more fair in many lighting conditions, a little whiter, like polishing type.

Apart from that, the images are perfect, the details are excellent, and the dynamic range is very well managed. The performance is outstanding, especially in low-light conditions. The camera also has a 2x option in portrait mode, so you can also capture zoom-in portraits. In this condition, the details will not be very crisp, but yes, the overall results are promising.

Apart from this, there is a 50-pixel ultra-wide sensor. It captures perfect colours and images in low-light daylight, mostly in places. Its field of view is also very good. Also, when you use it in daylight conditions, it delivers the colours of the sky, trees, and buildings very well.

I also took close-up photos of many flowers, which is very good. So, I can say that its camera is comparable to those of Apple iPhone 13 and Apple iPhone 14.

I liked its front camera the best in terms of skin tone accuracy. It has shown my skin very accurately, quite accurately, and close to accurate. The details are usually very good in most selfie images, and the selfie camera also captures a wide field of view.

Along with this, some Zeiss filters are available to capture portrait images with different background bokeh. Talking about videos, all three available cameras can record videos up to 4k 30fps. First, let’s talk about the main camera. Here, you will get good stability. The video quality is also good overall. A few punchy colours come, but the overall video quality looks good. Additionally, Ultra White also records stable videos in 4k 30fps; good details are available here.

Apart from this, the gallery has an AI eraser feature to remove unknown people. I tested it, and it works very well.

Vivo V40 Battery and Charging

In my Vivo V40 battery review, I got Vivo, which has boosted battery performance over Vivo V30. It has a 5500 mAh battery cell stuffed in here. It comes with that energy-efficient Snapdragon chipset, which means insane longevity. This thing will easily last you a full weekend at a single charge. But you just had to charge it up every other night, so it pretty much ticked down exactly 45-50 % in a single day.

Vivo V40 battery life

I played a very long gaming session during my review, but I found its battery very powerful. It will last almost 13 hours on a single charge, but during gameplay, it drained a bit early. Moreover, it has an 80W fast charger, so this phone can be charged fully within one hour. Moreover, it will take only 35 minutes to charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent.

Vivo V40 80W adapter

Vivo V40 comes with a Type-C charging slot. It also revers charging support, so you charge your earbud and smartwatch with it.

Vivo V40 Display

Vivo V40 has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. You would get 2800x 1260 pixel resolution, so it’s spacious but still pretty crispy. It does not have any Dolby Vision streaming support, but it has full support for HDR10 Plus.

Vivo V40 brightness

You can watch HDR videos or movies on several platforms, such as YouTube or Netflix. Its contrast is gorgeous, and the colours are fairly muted actually on the standard default setting, but you can boost them up in the display settings if you want things a bit more Punchy and Poppy and easy on the eye.

Vivo V40 Display

I have already mentioned that its refresh rate peaks at 120Hz, although this helps the app to scroll smoothly. One more thing: you can control the refresh rate from the settings.

Vivo V40 display quality

Vivo V40 has 4,500nits of peak brightness, and Its visibility is respectable even on really sunny days. I could still read messages, check out websites, etc. While the old Vivo v30 only had a mono speaker setup, the v40 has thankfully been upgraded to full stereo action; it’s not the loudest speaker setup, but it’s pretty respectable. I’m also using Vivo T3 Pro for review, but on the phone, Vivo added stereo sound with audio booster mode, which goes up to 300% and gives the loudest sound I have heard on a mobile phone.

Vivo V40 Performance

Vivo V40 did a great job in the performance review, and I got this phone to perform very well. It has a Qualcomm SM7550-AB Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 (4 nm) chipset, which is the same as the Vivo V30. So, there is no change in the chipset. Recently, we have seen the same processor chip in the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, which is also a mid-range phone.

Vivo V40 gaming performance

So, if you are looking for a gaming perspective, this phone is not ideal for you, but in terms of camera and other performance, this is one the best choices. To check the Vivo V40 gaming, I played BGMI, Asphalt 9, and COC, and I got good performance during gaming.

Vivo V40 ultra game mode

It’s crazy, but I played continuously for four hours BGMI, not working hours to check my gaming ability. Surprisingly, there is no lag problem, but it feels a little bit warm during gameplay.

Vivo V40 benchmark result

I tested Vivo V40 in different benchmarks. Its Geekbench scores were 1138 in single-core and 3086 in multi-core. The maximum in the CPU throttling test is 84 per cent. Moreover, its Antutu score is 810196. The 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test for stability has an overall score of 99.5 per cent. But it is worth mentioning that when I was doing the CPU throttling test, Vivo V40 became like an oven in terms of hotness during the test.

Vivo V40 RAM

Vivo V40 comes in three storage variants, but I have 8GB RAM and 256GB storage for review. You can buy it in different storage and RAM combinations, such as 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM, and 512GB 12GB RAM. One of the points of consideration is the UFS 2.2 type, but it could have UFS 4.1 or 3.1 at such a price tag for a more exclusive performance.

Vivo V40 Software and UI

Vivo V40 comes with the Android 14 operating system based on Funtouch 14.

Moreover, Vivo has promised to give three-year security updates and four-year security updates to make the phone new over the year. Its UI is perfect for daily usage.

There are two options for controlling the device: three virtual buttons at the bottom or navigation operation. Both are available in settings.

Verdict

I did the Vivo V40 review, and I got that this is one of the best camera phones in the mid-range. After using it as my full-time phone for almost 15 days, I have to say I really enjoyed it. Its battery life is even better now than Vivo V30’s, but it is still pretty solid. It has a nice, slick design. You know, it would have been nice to have a metal frame. I have a few little complaints about the camera design, but that’s okay.

Overall, its finish is immaculate, and its display and back curve give the best in-hand feeling. Now, over to its camera performance, it’s absolutely astonishing and top-notch. I have no complaints about the camera at this price because I have used several medical range phones for review, but this camera quality is beyond that of others.

Several phones are in this price category, such as the iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G, OnePlus 12R, Xiaomi 14 Civi, Samsung Galaxy A55 5G, OPPO Reno12 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. So, you can compare these phone features before making the decision to buy Vivo V40.
