Lately, smartphone giants like Apple, Samsung, and Google have decided to develop their own chipset, and Oppo joins them in the race. Oppo has lately decided to make its chipset for its premium range phones.
Apple has been producing its A-series of chipsets for years. Plus, Google has also joined the family yesterday after launching its Pixel series with the custom-developed Tensor chip. Samsung, too, has its Exynos lineup that features in its smartphones across different prices.

OPPO smartphone chipset
As per the Nikkei Asia report, the Chinese giant, Oppo is working on its custom chipset that could be launched in a few years. Reportedly, it is working with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) to produce the chipset. Oppo is going to run a custom chip based on TSMC’s 3nm architecture similar to that of Apple Inc. However, there is no confirmation on the same, but the chipsets are expected to be launched in 2023 or 2024.

Why is the company looking forward to its custom chip?
As Oppo has decided to take a different path, the main question arises that why it has done so? The answer to this is because it wanted more power in the industry. The custom made chipsets of Oppo give it an edge over the competitors and let you modify the product as per the need.
Google yesterday only showed us the influence of tensor chipset as it will come with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) features.

Under the hood, when the world is struggling with the chipset shortage, having custom chipsets allows you to have control over the production. Moreover, Oppo now doesn’t have to depend on the companies like Qualcomm and MediaTek for chipset requirements.
