Earlier this year, Whatsapp announced that it’s developing a new “Communities Home” feature that will make it easier for users to interact with the groups that are important to them. This feature will also help in categorizing and organising all the groups you have in your chat box. The function was announced to unite individuals with similar interests through common groups.
Now in a new update, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced and officially rolled out the WhatsApp Communities feature. Along with Communities, WhatsApp has also introduced the option to make groups with up to 1024 participants, 32-person video calls, in-chat polls, and more. Whatsapp Communities can also support groups of up to 1,024 users and offers all users end-to-end encryption as well. Mark Zuckerberg announced these features via a blog post, stating:
“Today we are excited to share our vision for a new feature we are adding to WhatsApp called Communities. Since WhatsApp launched in 2009, we’ve been focused on how we can help people have the next best thing to an in-person conversation when they want to talk to an individual or a group of friends or family. We also frequently hear from people who are using WhatsApp to communicate and coordinate within a community”
How To Create WhatsApp Communities
If you are enrolled in the beta testing of WhatsApp, you should see the Communities feature on the app’s home screen. If not, the update will be officially rolled out within a few months to all users. Here, we now guide you on how you can create Communities:
- On iOS WhatsApp beta users, will find the new communities tab at the bottom of their chats. The same can be located on the top left corner of the Android WhatsApp.
- From there, you can either add already-existing groups or create a new Community from scratch.
- You can also quickly choose between accessible groups once they are in a community to acquire the information from them.
- Group admins can also add polls and critical updates to everyone in any particular WhatsApp Community.
Summary
Communities on WhatsApp can assist people in unifying many groups under a framework that suits them. This will make it easier for all users to communicate updates to the entire community. Additionally, it will assist people in setting up discussion groups or polls on various topics that are relevant to them. The new feature will offer a set of admin tools, including the ability to choose which groups can be included in any Community, which is shared to everyone.
