In recent times, we are seeing a lot of smartphones offering enough RAM to ensure seamless multitasking and gaming. Now, Xiaomi is working on a new RAM extension feature in MIUI, according to noted tipster Kacper Skrzypek. The same has surfaced online in the MIUI strings and a screenshot of the feature. Moreover, Xiaomi suggests the MIUI RAM extension feature will allocate a portion of the internal storage as virtual RAM. Especially for better multitasking and keeping apps in memory for a longer duration. In addition, a screenshot shows the RAM extension feature will use 1GB of storage as RAM.

The feature works similar to Vivo’s virtual RAM. It basically allocates some storage towards RAM to handle multi-tasking. The concept has existed on PCs for some time now. However, even this feature has its limitations. The phone can allocate only limited storage towards RAM for Xiaomi.

On the other hand, it will be interesting to see if Xiaomi reserves this feature for one of its more premium smartphones or adds it to MIUI across devices. The latter would definitely benefit a lot of users running older smartphones. They will be able to extend the phone’s life and get better performance without having to spend on a new device.

Separately, a Xiaomi smartphone with a massive 200MP camera sensor is in the works, according to tipster Digital Chat Station. However, not much else is out about the phone. The 200MP camera sensor will be by Samsung and rumors suggest that Samsung Galaxy S22 flagships will also use this ISOCELL sensor. The 200MP sensor will have a 0.64-micron pixel size, 1.28-micron pixels, and measures 1/1.37-inches in size. It will offer 4-in-1 and 16-in-1 pixel binning technology that will help reduce noise in images.
