WhatsApp tests the video messages feature on iOS and Android beta versions, introducing exciting possibilities for chat messaging. The feature enables users to swiftly record and send videos to other recipients within the chat. Unlike temporary messages, these video messages will remain in the conversation even after the recipient has viewed them. To send a video message on WhatsApp, users must capture a brief video clip using their smartphones.
WABetaInfo confirms the latest WhatsApp beta versions (iOS 23.12.0.71, Android 2.23.13.4) position video messages feature on the chat bar. This positioning allows easy access and integration within the messaging interface. The new video messages feature is placed beside the buttons for attachments, the camera, and the WhatsApp Pay icon (where applicable). The new video messages feature can be found on the microphone button at the screen’s bottom-right corner.
According to the feature tracker, tapping the microphone icon in a WhatsApp chat window will transform it into a camera icon. This action enables you to record a video message that can last up to 60 seconds. Upon receiving a video message, a single tap enlarges it and enables audio playback, as suggested by WABetaInfo. This indicates that the video message will have default mute settings.

Similar to text messages, attachments, voice calls, and video calls on WhatsApp, the newly introduced video messages feature will benefit from end-to-end encryption for enhanced security. Also, users must record video messages using their phone’s camera and cannot forward them to other chats. However, it is important to acknowledge that the recipient of a video message has the ability to record their screen and share the video message with another chat or group.
