Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Teardown Reveals New Details!

Samsung recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 foldable with a hinge design. The company claims it meets durability standards, and the hinge can last long. It features Corning Glass Victus 2 on both displays, Armor Aluminum Frames, and an IPX8 rating for protection against water splashes. A teardown video of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has revealed a hidden feature of the smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 teardown video by YouTuber JerryRigEverything revealed some interesting discoveries. It seems that Samsung has added another layer to the phone for improved shock dispersion. Zack removed the screen by heating up the corners and getting past the plastic bumpers. Underneath the display, he found a new black layer created from foam with circular cutouts.

While there is no information on how it improves the durability of the device, Zack believes the layer exists to compensate for deviation from milling out the armored aluminum. Samsung doesn’t advertise it much because it isn’t cool or exciting enough.

The Youtuber further found that the back glass panel fairly difficult to remove. However, the smaller 2,100 mAh battery on the phone is fairly easy to remove and is kept in place with three screws and two-pull tabs.

The Fold 5 still has many moving parts inside its hinge with springs, guide rails, and dual-rail structure to reinforce the device against impact. YouTuber still notes that super tiny dust particles can still get inside the hinge. However, none of them are big enough to disrupt the functioning of the hinge. There are a total of 76 screws located inside the Z Fold 5.

The new three-hinge structure removes the gap found in previous Fold phones and allows the device to fold flat. Samsung highly advertised this new flat hinge design as the company lagged behind its competitors in this aspect.
