Apple plans to bring an important feature with the upcoming iOS 17.3 update. The new Stolen Device Protection feature will allow users to protect their data even after their iPhone gets stolen.

The Cupertino Giant has added the feature in the iOS 17.3 developer beta. It makes it harder for thieves to access your stolen iPhone even if they know the password. Here is everything you need to know about the new feature.

iOS 17.3 Stolen Device Protection Feature

The iOS 17.3 beta update will add a stolen device protection feature, making it challenging for thieves to access a stolen iPhone. Furthermore, any stolen iPhone will require a FaceID or TouchID to complete some specific action when the phone detects it is at a new location.

Some of these actions include viewing passwords, resetting the device, turning off the Lost Mode, applying for a new Apple Card, using payment methods in Safari, using passkey, setting up a new device with the iPhone and performing actions in the Apple Wallet app.

Furthermore, actions like changing your Apple ID password, updating Apple ID settings, changing the passcode of your iPhone, removing Touch ID/FaceID, Turning Off Find My and Turning off stolen device protection will have a one-hour delay apart from requiring Touch ID/FaceID authentication.

How To Enable This New Feature?

In order to enable the Stolen Device Protection feature, you will need to update your iPhone to the iOS 17.3 developer beta. Once you install the update, navigate to Settings->Face ID & Passcode-> Stolen Device Protection.

The iOS 17.3 stable beta is likely to release for all compatible iPhones in January or February. There is no clarity from Apple on whether this feature will arrive in the stable version of the update.
