Google’s Next SoC, Tensor G2 Hints at Some Interesting Specs

The Google Pixel 7 series launch is confirmed on October 6, 2022. Earlier in May this year, Google gave us a glimpse of what the Pixel 7 would look like. From what we know so far, Google is bringing some changes and a new design with this launch. But what’s more interesting is that it will launch the smartphone with an all-new chip, Tensor G2. Now, with a new benchmark surfacing, some interesting specs have come to light for the SoC.

Just weeks ahead of the launch, a new benchmark has surfaced online. This gives us a glimpse at the new Tensor G2 chipset on the Pixel 7 series. Now, this is one of the first few substantial rumours for the SoC, as leaks for the same have been scarce. Unlike Tensor in 2021, Google has managed to keep a lid on the leaks for the successor.

What’s new in Tensor G2 SoC?

According to a new report, the Tensor G2 SoC might use the same combination of two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores as its predecessor. However, boosted core speeds have reportedly improved the new SoC. Therefore, the Pixel 7 Pro’s multi-core performance increased by about 10 per cent. It hints at the CPU and GPU improvements of the Tensor G2 chip.

On the other hand, previous reports hinted that Samsung is working on Google’s next generation Tensor SoC as well as its in-house Exynos 1380 SoC. The upcoming Google Tensor G2 SoC will be in the Pixel 7 series phones. The Tensor G2 SoC reportedly has the model number S5P9865.

The tipster also suggested that Google has already received some early samples of the third generation Tensor codenamed ‘Zuma’. This will allegedly be fabricated on Samsung’s 3nm GAAFET process node.
