Google Pixel 8a Specifications Leak, Will Bring These Upgrades

Google is expected to launch its affordable Pixel 8a at the Google I/O event on May 14, 2024. Recently, a Google employee accidentally revealed the Pixel 8a’s existence when replying to a user on the Issue Tracker page. A new leak has revealed the specifications of the Google Pixel 8a and upgrades it will likely offer. Here is everything you need to know about the Google Pixel 8a.

According to a report by Android Authority, the Pixel 8a will offer some significant upgrades over the Google Pixel 7a. The leaks reveal that the Pixel 8a will likely feature a 6.1-inch Full-HD+ OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1,400 nits.

These are the same specifications as the Google Pixel 8 and a massive leap over the Pixel 7a’s 90Hz refresh rate. Moreover, the display will have curved corners, and Samsung and BOE are the likely suppliers of the panel.

Another major upgrade is the support for DisplayPort output, allowing users to mirror their phones to an external display. This could allow Google to add a potential Dex-like feature to the Pixel series in the future.

The Google Pixel 8a will use the Tensor G3 chipset similar to the Pixel 8 series, an upgrade over the Tensor G2 on the Pixel 7a. However, this version of the Tensor G3 will use IPoP (Integrated Package on Package) instead of FOPLP (Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging) on the normal G3.

However, this is unlikely to cause a major change in real-life usage, and users won’t be able to notice any changes. Furthermore, the Pixel 8a will retain the same cameras as the Pixel 7a, with a 64-megapixel primary and a 13-megapixel ultrawide angle lens.

Availability & Pricing

The Google Pixel 8a will be available in wider areas, with a launch expected in 21 countries, including India. These new countries include the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

It is likely to have a similar price tag of around Rs.40,000 and launch on May 14, 2024, at the Google I/O event. It will be interesting to see whether Google will offer the same seven years of update support for the Pixel 8a.
