    In light of recent events, a tweet from Elon Musk from 2017 has surfaced. In reaction to Musk’s declaration that he adored Twitter, Business Insider editor Dave Smith recommended that Musk acquire the microblogging network.

    Musk was excited to inquire, “How much is it?”

    Smith replayed his conversation with Musk before Twitter disclosed its arrangement with him. He wrote, “This interaction continues to haunt me,” along with a screenshot of the chat.

    Musk has promised to support free expression on Twitter, stating that he hopes even his worst opponents would continue to use the service. Musk called free expression the “bedrock of a functional democracy” in a statement announcing the arrangement.

    “Twitter is the digital town square where important issues affecting humanity’s future are argued,” he continued. “I also want to make Twitter better than it has ever been by adding new features, opening up the algorithms to boost trust, combating spam bots, and authenticating all people.     While some applauded Twitter’s agreement with Musk, others issued cautionary statements.

    Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat, remarked, “This deal is disastrous for our democracy.” “Billionaires like Elon Musk follow a separate set of laws than the rest of us, building power for their own benefit. To keep Big Tech accountable, we need a wealth tax and strict regulations.”
