Cupertino-based tech giant Apple’s iPhone 15 wonderlust launch event is just a few hours away and with the obvious new iPhone 15 series is all set to launch. However, that is not all that the tech giant has in store for us, with multiple hardware and software upgrades.
The iPhone 15 wonderlust launch event, for those unaware, is scheduled for September 12, which is just around the corner at the time of writing this article. As of now, it is all but confirmed that the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9 will debut. There also exists a possibility of upgrades to certain products, which we will list.

What to Expect from Apple’s iPhone 15 Wonderlust Launch Event
1. New iPhones (USB Type-C FTW)
Undoubtedly the headlining element of the launch event, the iPhone 15 is likely to bring a host of upgrades. The most impactful of these upgrades is the inclusion of USB Type-C, due to new EU regulations. This will replace the Lightning Port, which, to an average user has long been a hassle in this USB Type-C focused world.
Whilst the regulations do state that manufacturers have until the end of 2024 to implement this change, Apple seems to be preparing to do the same for this year’s iPhone. Reports have suggested that faster charging speeds will be reserved for Pro variants. This is expected considering the price difference. On the topic of charging, wireless charging speeds will also receive a welcome bump, with certain rumours suggesting support for 15W Qi2 charging.
Dynamic Island is also likely to come to the regular non-PRO models, which is quite appreciated considering how dated the notch has started to look in recent years. A sense of uniformity will also be seen across the board. The Dynamic Island, for those unaware, is a pill-shaped cut-out within the display that houses the optical sensors for the front-facing camera and tech for FaceID, Apple’s proprietary face recognition system.
A new Action button is also expected, which will act as a substitute for the smartphone giant’s famous Mute button. To some, this might not seem as revolutionary as certain people will make it out to be. But, for most, it is a welcome change. It will make using your iPhone a tad bit easier in certain unique situations or when you are short on time and need to get a specific task done. And this would enable endless possibilities of shortcuts that you can integrate with a single click of button.
Naming schemes will also see a change, with the top-end model supposedly set to be referred to as the iPhone 15 Ultra. The device will sport a 120Hz refresh rate supporting a 6.7-inch display unit. The new iPhones will also bring battery upgrades, which, when coupled with the upcoming A16 Bionic Soc will likely result in handsets that set the standard for battery life and endurance. The base iPhone 15 is likely to feature a 3,877 mAh battery, which is much larger than the outgoing generation’s 3,279 mAh cell. The Plus variant of the iPhone 15 will sport a massive 4,912 mAh cell. The Pro and Pro Max variants will likely be seen with 3,650 mAh and 4,852 mAh cells, respectively.

2. A New Apple Watch (To be or Not to be)
Talking about the iPhone 15 Ultra and its Action Button, one might feel inclined to think about the Apple Watch Ultra. Whilst there are no rumours in relation to a new Ultra variant, there does seem to be some buzz in relation to a new Apple Watch generation.
Apple is likely to bring the Series 9 as an incremental upgrade and wait for a major upgrade since 2024 will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Apple Watch. Coming back to the rumoured Apple Watch Series 9, one can expect the watch to sport new colours and an upgraded SoC. And as usual, we shall have two size variants for the Apple Watch Series 9 along with the next-generation Apple Watch SE which is a budget offering from Apple.

3. New AirPods (and maybe a new HomePod)
It seems like a new generation of AirPods are right around the corner. Even if the rumours are not that strong, the competition has gotten a lot better and Apple has been sticking to its guns. Now seems like the perfect time for new AirPods. A new SoC and USB-C-based charging should be included as well. However, that could also be delayed to 2024.
It has also been quite some time since the launch of a new HomePod. A new Mini variant or even the standard model would be welcome. The smart-speaker segment has also been getting more competitive and the time is right for an incremental upgrade.
4. OS Updates
Finally, the company is also likely to announce the timeline for the next-gen OS updates. Be it for the iPhone, in the form of iOS or for the iPad, Apple Watch or Mac. Certain new upgrades coming to the next-gen upgrades may also be discussed to create a certain amount of excitement for the same.
The iOS 17 official release date will be announced and it is usually a week after the launch event aligning with the iPhone launch.
