The mass production for Apple’s iPhone 12 models are starting soon, according to Nikkei. Talks of delay have been going on for a long time. But a mid-September start on the production gives in to only a few weeks delay.
Apple has finally overcome the travel restrictions and other disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic to begin the production of its first set of iPhone 12.

However, the manufacturing of the iPhone 12 will start on a limited scale at first. Then, mass production will begin by the end of September and early October.
On the other hand, Apple sent out invites for a launch event on September 15th. This event will most likely have Apple Watch Series 6 and new-generation of iPads, and more as its focus.
Schedule delays for iPhone 12
Meanwhile, Apple might still fall short of its production target for the year for iPhone 12. The company ordered 80 million 5G iPhones components, but sources say the actual number produced this year may end up being between 73 million and 74 million.
However, the company is looking to start the manufacturing of iPhones with at least one model – the lowest-priced iPhone 12 variant that will come with a 6.1-inch OLED screen and two rear cameras.

The same iPhone 12 model will account for around 40% of the production orders Apple has placed, the report said.
Apple is also looking to produce a new accessory known as Airtag that will allow users to track non-Apple devices. This will be similar to the Tile smart sensor that helps users to keep track of their belongings.
Coronavirus-related travel restrictions forced Apple to work remotely. The company has asked its suppliers to deliver the final samples to the US. To maintain secrecy, all items will be shipped with huge boxes.

“This year this kind of secretive sample delivery increases a lot, but Apple is willing to spend as much money to protect its highly-confidential unfinished products,” the source told the publication.
Apple will launch four iPhone 12 models this year with three different sizes, including 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches, and 6.7 inches.
Apple currently has no plans to introduce a new generation of the budget iPhone SE next spring, according to reports.
